Three scientists of Indian origin have been elected as Fellows and Foreign members of the 450-year-old Royal Society of London.
Professor of Biology Kamal Bawa, physicist Ajay Sood and molecular biologist John Kuriyan will be inducted to the society on July 10. Established in 1660, the Royal Society elects eminent scientists from England and Commonwealth countries. Though Mr. Bawa’s research mainly focussed on plant conservation models, he is known in the city for forming the independent research organisation Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment.
Elected as a Foreign member, Mr. Kuriyan is recognised for his contributions in DNA replication and discoveries in the structure of enzymes.
Ajay Sood is a Professor at the Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Science, and is best known for his research into condensed matter.
