Three people have been arrested for allegedly cheating a student of Rs. 28 lakh after promising to get her a seat in a medical college.
The Kadugondanhalli police arrested Mujammil Ameen (24) and Tanveer Pasha (33), of Bangalore, and Syed Ayoob Ali (26) of Tumkur following a complaint by Ria Sarkar, a native of West Bengal, recently.
Ms. Ria had paid them Rs. 28 lakh after they promised to get a seat in Basaveshwara Medical College in Chitradurga. Her family had pledged property to arrange for the money, the police said.
The trio, however, could get her a seat, and they also refused to refund the money she had given, the police said. They even changed their contact numbers. When Ms. Ria and her family could not trace them, she approached the police.
The police seized Rs. 1 lakh in cash and a car which the accused had bought from the money they taken from Ms. Ria. The police suspect that the trio could have been involved in other similar cases.
