Three people have been arrested for allegedly cheating a student of Rs. 28 lakh after promising to get her a seat in a medical college.

The Kadugondanhalli police arrested Mujammil Ameen (24) and Tanveer Pasha (33), of Bangalore, and Syed Ayoob Ali (26) of Tumkur following a complaint by Ria Sarkar, a native of West Bengal, recently.

Ms. Ria had paid them Rs. 28 lakh after they promised to get a seat in Basaveshwara Medical College in Chitradurga. Her family had pledged property to arrange for the money, the police said.

The trio, however, could get her a seat, and they also refused to refund the money she had given, the police said. They even changed their contact numbers. When Ms. Ria and her family could not trace them, she approached the police.

The police seized Rs. 1 lakh in cash and a car which the accused had bought from the money they taken from Ms. Ria. The police suspect that the trio could have been involved in other similar cases.

Another arrest

The K.G. Halli police have arrested the fourth member of the gang that allegedly hacked to death a 22-year-old man in K.G. Halli in broad daylight on March 19.

The police gave his name as Saleem Ahmed (22).

Over the past one week, the police arrested Hasan alias Hussain Sharif (25), Toufiq Pasha (24) and Baksh (21) in connection with the case.

The gang hacked to death Mohammed Yaseen while trying to kill his older brother, Mohammed Ameen, while they were waiting at the Govindrapura Cross bus-stop.

The police cited old rivalry as the reason behind the attack.
