Three students of a city-based degree college drowned in Rawuthalli lake near Harohalli, Ramnagar district, on Saturday when they had gone there as a part of their NSS training.

The deceased have been identified as Balagopala Reddy, Kiran V. and Harish. They had gone to swim in the lake after lunch with four of their friends. Though they knew how to swim, they lost balance and were sucked in due to heavy silt on the lake bed, said the police.

The other students raised an alarm after seeing the trio struggling for breath and alerted the police. The police rushed to the spot and with the help of local people managed to recover the bodies. According to the police the three were part of a group of 38 students from the Government First Grade College in Yadiyur, who had come for an NSS camp in Annapoorneshwari Ashram in Dodda Naralawadi. The Harohalli police have taken up a case of unnatural death.
