Three men, including the owner of a stone quarry, died and four others were injured when mud collapsed on them at Koyira near Devanahalli on the city's outskirts on Wednesday night.
The names of the dead were given as quarry owner Cycle Ramaiah (75) and workers Raju (45) and Nandeesh (55), residents of Koyira. About 20 employees were working at the quarry when a huge pile of mud, dislodged by the heavy rain, collapsed trapping seven beneath it.
Ramaiah, Raju and Nandeesh died before they could be extricated from the mud while four others were rescued and admitted to a nearby hospital, the Vishwanathapur police said.
Killed in accident
A pedestrian and a motorist died in separate road accidents in the city on Wednesday.
A 35-year-old man crossing the road died on the spot when a Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus hit him in front of the Satellite Bus Stand on Mysore Road around 7.30 p.m., the Byatarayanapura traffic police said.
Lourdanathan (45), a hotel employee, who was grievously injured when a cab rammed his motorcycle on Victoria Road in the Ashok Nagar traffic police station limits around 4.30 p.m., died in hospital later.
Hotelier arrested
The Kengeri police arrested a hotel owner for allegedly murdering his employee on Wednesday. Krishna was arrested after the decomposed body of Raghu alias Raghunath (25), a native of Huligere in Maddur taluk, was found in an open well near his hotel off Bangalore-Mysore highway on April 10. The police said the two had an altercation during which Krishna slapped Raghu. The latter collapsed and died. Later, Krishna dumped the body in the well.
