The Basaveshwara Nagar police have busted another racket run by a rowdy who is serving term in the Central prison. Under his direction, a gang of four, including a 24-year-old woman, has been executing robberies in the city.

The racket came to light after the police arrested three persons on Thursday in connection with the robbery at the house of 49-year-old Kavitha, who was living alone. A massive manhunt has been launched for the fourth accused, Hemavathy.

Deputy Commissioner of Police M.N. Anucheth said that the accused Bharath ( 20), Vinay Kumar (23), and Ravi Kiran (22) were associates of rowdy Praveen Hitachi, who is in Parappana Agrahara. They robbed Kavitha when she was alone in her house in Shakti Ganapthi Nagar on Wednesday.

According to the police, Hemavathy approached Kavitha on the pretext of seeking job and later gained entry into the house stating that she was hungry.

While the victim was busy serving lunch, Hemavathy after ensuring that no one else was at home informed her associates and allowed them inside.

The accused later overpowered Kavitha, gagged her and tied her legs. They robbed her of the gold chain and pair of bangles before fleeing.

Based on a complaint, Basaveshwara Nagar police inspector G. Somashekhar tracked down the accused based on a CCTV footage and CDR analysis from the near-by towers.

The police said that the accused confessed that they are involved in three other robberies in Anapporneshwari Nagar, Bagalagunte and Hennur police station limits and that they would give parts of the booty to Praveen.
