Three arrested for illegal possession of snakes

Officials of the Criminal Investigation Department-Forest Cell wing, with the help of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) forest cell volunteers, raided a house in HSR layout and arrested three persons for illegally possessing around seven snakes, including four cobras, two Russel vipers and a common Kukri.

The raid was carried following a tip off from the account of the accused on a social networking site in which he claimed to be a herpetologists catching snakes. One of the accused, identified as Ralph, neither has a license from the competent authority nor is he trained.

“We suspect that they are indulging in illegal sale of wildlife animals and handed them over to the HSR Layout police for further investigations,” Rajesh Kumar, a wildlife rescuer said.
