Three arrested for duping jeweller

The police have arrested a group of three conmen who duped a city-based jeweller on K.G. Road. The trio bought a kg of gold jewels after paying ₹32 lakh in fake currency on April 24.

One of the accused identified as Jugraj, a businessmen from Chikkamagaluru, called Dinesh Kumar, the jeweller, on his mobile and placed an order for a kg of jewels aparently for his daughter’s wedding.

He told Dinesh Kumar that as he was busy with the marriage preparations he would send his manager with the cash to collect the jewels.

As per plan, the accused met Dinesh Kumar near Shikshakara Sadana on KG Road and handed over a bag containing fake currency before taking the delivery of the jewels.

The accused diverted Dinesh Kumar’s attention on the pretext of chatting with him and sped away before he could check the bag. Dinesh Kumar received a shock of his life when he reached his office and opened the bag to find fake currency.

Based on his complaint, the Halasooru Gate police tracked down the accused with the help of the call records and arrested them in Mysuru.

The accused have been identified as Vinod Tilakchand (45), Heanth Gowda (33) and Harish Kumar (31), all from Mysuru, who are involved in forgery and fake currency cases in Mysuru, Chamarajanagar and Bengaluru.

The police have recovered huge amount of fake currency, printers and material used to print the currency along with 1 kg of solid gold.
