The West division police have arrested three persons hailing from Gujarat for their involvement in over 13 cases of house break thefts and recovered gold and silver valuables worth Rs. 48 lakh from them.
The gang leader Talapad Navagan Bhai, a native of Gujarat, was living in the city for the past five years in a rented house at Hosakerehalli. The accused, with the help of his associates Rajesh (32) and Mitesh Panchal (25), would move around in a car to identify locked houses. After a close watch, they would break into them and escape with valuables.
The police said Navagan Bhai would melt gold and silver and send it to Gujarat for disposal. If the quantum of gold and silver was more, the accused would drive to Gujarat, else fly there, a senior police officer said.
Their luck ran out when the Vijayanagar police identified the accused through CCTV grabs and nabbed one of them. After detailed questioning, the police were able to recover 1.25 kg gold, 150 kg silver and a new sedan from them.
The accused have confessed to 13 house break thefts in the city so far. The police said Navagan Bhai’s wife also played a vital role in the thefts and efforts were on to nab her. A case has been registered.
