There is good news for children who love to make moves on 64 squares. The Hindu in School (THiS) Chess Competition-2016 will be held in six cities and towns across Karnataka, starting Saturday.

The event is presented by Thyrocare and will be held under the aegis of the United Karnataka Chess Association, which is affiliated to the All India Chess Federation. The event is supported by Chess Shoots Academy.

The competition will be held in two categories – for juniors (from class 5 to 8) and for seniors (from class 9 to 12). Interested students may visit www.thehindu.com/thischess and register by paying an entry fee of Rs. 100.

They will receive a confirmation email from The Hindu . Students have to bring a printout of the email along with their school ID card and present them at the event registration desk.

Spot registration is allowed for those who are unable to sign up online. Participants have to report at the venue at 8.30 a.m. The tournament will be played on Swiss League basis under the latest FIDE Rapid Rules.

In Bengaluru, the competition will be held at Army Public School, K. Kamaraj Road, on Saturday and Sunday. Bank of Baroda will be the regional partner. The gift partner is Sapna Book House.

In Mysuru, it will be held at Sri Ram Mandir Hall, Kantharaj Urs Road, Krishnamurthypuram, on Saturday.

The event is supported by Mysore Chess Centre.

In Shivamogga, it will be held at DVS Ranga Mandira, DVS Circle, opposite MG Park, on July 24.

Spot registration is allowed for those who could not register online. Participants must be at the venue at 8.30 a.m.
