A jewellery shop in K.R. Puram was burgled and gold ornaments worth several lakhs were stolen on Wednesday night. The burglars entered Balaji Jewels and Bankers after burrowing a tunnel through a storm water drain. They destroyed the CCTV camera in the shop and took the recorded footage.

The incident came to light when shop-owner, Mohan Lal, opened his shop for business on Thursday morning. He found a hole in the middle of the shop, which led to the storm water drain. The police suspect that the thieves had dug the tunnel at least a day in advance.

A similar theft had occurred in Ramamurthy Nagar in April last year. A gang dug a tunnel into Kairali Jewellery from a near-by drain and stole gold valuables worth lakhs of rupees.
