There’s a Tejpal in every office, says Kiran Bedi

Speaking about the accusations of sexual assault against Tarun Tejpal, Retired IPS officer Kiran Bedi said: “What the Goa police is doing, is absolutely right. There is a Tejpal in every office. The women and men in an organisation must be aware of their responsibilities.”

Ms. Bedi said that every office must follow a policy which ensures that the employees are aware of their rights while interacting with the opposite sex.

Employees should be made to write a test before the are recruited so that they cannot say later on that they were unaware of their rights, she added. If they do not clear a test on their rights, they should be educated about their rights. To a query as to why many victims were not registering their complaints, Ms. Bedi opined that organisations concerned have a role to play in encouraging victims of sexual harassment to come forward with their grievances.

An internal mechanism should be put in place to deal with such issues., she added.
