Just when it seemed like there was no end in sight to cloudless skies and climbing temperatures, the pre-monsoon thunderclouds brought some respite to the State on Friday.
Bangalore saw its first pre-monsoon shower on March 31 after close to three months without rain. The next two months will see regular spells of rain and thundershowers in the evenings and nights, said a duty officer at the meteorological centre.
Several parts of the city and its outskirts, including Majestic, Peenya, Kengeri and Magadi, saw spells of rainfall on Friday evening. Bangalore recorded 0.6 mm rainfall on Friday evening.
April also happens to be a “cyclone month” known for frequent tropical cyclones.
Bangalore has seen some peaks in temperature this summer, most notably in February when the city saw the hottest day in seven years for the month.
April, however, is by far the hottest month of the year in Bangalore, with the average maximum temperature hovering around 34.1 degrees. In 2010, the temperature touched 37.6 degrees.
North Karnataka is feeling the heat, with Gulbarga recording a staggering 40.5 degrees on Friday. Rainfall was recorded in parts of Gulbarga, Chitradurga and Uttara Kannada on Friday.
The forecast for the monsoon - expected to set in in the first week of June — will be released shortly, said the duty officer.
