People who choose to travel between Bengaluru and Chennai on Monday afternoon were the unluckiest with the protest stalling traffic on the pivotal national highway for hours. Some turned around while the rest reached their respective destinations after a prolonged wait.
Movement of trucks was severely affected. Most people stuck in the jam were travelling by car.
“The road was so packed that I couldn’t even open my car door to step out. We were stuck for nearly two hours without even knowing what was happening ahead,” said an irate K. Subramanian, a businessman, scheduled to attend a meeting at Byappanahalli.
K. Radhakrishna Holla, General Secretary, Bangalore Tourist Taxi Owners Association, said, “Numerous scheduled business trips were affected from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with vehicles getting caught in the traffic chaos due to the protest. Business travellers were affected and we tried our best to guide our drivers through alternative routes, including HSR Layout and adjoining areas. But nothing really worked.”
