Engineer-turned-television artiste Indudhar (49) committed suicide after allegedly murdering his wife Hemalatha (39) at their home near Jayanagar police station here Wednesday morning. The bodies were discovered in the evening.
Indudhar was found hanging from the ceiling fan while his wife was found dead in bed.
Senior police and Forensic Science Laboratory officials, who inspected the crime scene, suspect Indudhar to have smothered his wife to death before committing suicide.
The Jayanagar police said the motive as yet unclear though they have recovered a five-page note signed by the couple which stated they had chosen to end their lives for personal reasons.
Indhudhar, a native of Davangere, and Hemalatha, from Hassan, had been married for 10 years. The police, quoting neighbours, said the couple used to quarrel often.
Indudhar, an engineer, debuted in Kannada films with the movie Shruthi.
He had since then acted in several films and television serials, earning modest fame for his performance in films like Annayya, Nishkarsha and Anukoola Kobba Ganda.
A costume designer
“Hema was a costume designer and was desperate to become a director. Indudhar wanted to become a producer,” a Kannada film industry source told The Hindu.
Actors Tara, Jaggesh, Girija Lokesh, Srujan Lokesh and others visited the couple's house on learning what happened.
