A 15-year-old girl, studying in Class 10, went missing from her home in Lakshminarayanapura on Friday, leaving a note that said she would “die soon” and alleged harassment by her school principal and mathematics teacher. Her schoolmate is also missing though it is not clear whether he is in Class 10 or 9.
There are inconsistencies in what the Sriramapuram police say and in her distraught family’s version about her whereabouts, with the police claiming that the girl was spotted along with the boy in the evening but her family insisting she is missing.
The boy’s parents have not filed a police complaint, though they reportedly went to the police with his photograph in the evening.
The complaint was filed by her parents who said when their daughter didn’t return home by late evening, they went in search of her. When her mother did not find her at her maternal grandmother’s house, she called her husband and they started looking for her with the help of neighbours.
Two notes
She said it wasn’t until later in the evening that she discovered two letters written by her daughter. One said she was not interested going back to school, alleging harassment by her school principal and her mathematics teacher. It also asked her parents not to go looking for her.
The other note was addressed to “my favourite teacher” where she apologised and said she wanted “to score good marks in my final exam but my time has come to die because of some people”. It also makes some references to her friends.
The girl’s family claimed their daughter had spoken about problems she was facing at school due to one of her teachers and that they had reassured her they would discuss the matter at the next parent-teacher meeting.
The police however are sceptical about the harassment charge. “The current case is only a missing complaint,” an official said.
