A thirty-five-year-old homemaker was found murdered at her home in Domlur here on Monday afternoon. Her husband’s friend is suspected to be behind the murder.

Prachi Debashish had married Debashish, a senior manager with an IT major, around eight months ago. The couple is a native of Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

The police said Debashish was at work when the incident took place at around 3 p.m. The couple lived in a rented house on the second floor of a three-storey building.

The house owner Saraswathi, who lives on the ground floor, went to the first floor after hearing some noise. As she reached the first floor, she saw Basudev Jena, Debashish’s friend, running down from the second to the first floor, with his shirt and hands smeared with blood.

When she tried confronting him, he tried to flee, only to be caught by passersby outside. They handed him over to the police after spotting a Hoysala van on the next street.

Basudev was a close friend of Debashish’s, police said, adding that the two were roommates in the same house that Prachi and her husband were staying in. They had moved in as bachelors nearly 12 years ago, and Basudev had moved out a few years ago after getting married. Debashish had remained in the same house and gotten married last year.

The police said Prachi was found dead in the kitchen with her throat slit with a kitchen knife.

The reason for the murder is not yet known yet and Basudev is being questioned at the Ulsoor police station.
