A New Year party ended tragically for a software engineer who was stabbed outside the La Marvella Hotel near South End Circle in Siddapura police station limits.

The deceased, Karthik Vishnu, who had come to the city from Coimbatore to celebrate New Year, died at a private hospital here on Tuesday morning after he was allegedly attacked on Monday night.

Party at hotel

The victim, a native of Tirupur in Tamil Nadu, had come with five of his friends to attended a party at the hotel on the eve of New Year. The security guard of the hotel, who heard a sound, rushed outside and found Karthik lying with stab injuries in the abdomen, face and thigh a few metres away from the hotel. He was rushed to St. John’s Hospital, but succumbed on Tuesday morning, said the police. Sources said that his friends had earlier left the venue in an autorickshaw after 1 a.m. and Karthik was said to have been waiting near the hotel to hire another autorickshaw.

City Police Commissioner Jyothi Prakash Mirji said that a case of accident had been initially registered as there was a suspicion that Karthik had fallen off an autorickshaw on to the road. However, after studying the CCTV footage from the hotel, a case of murder has been registered.

Joint Commissioner of Police (West) Pronab Mohanty said that they could not yet ascertain the reason behind the attack.

Meanwhile, the police have picked up Karthik’s friends for questioning.
