A New Year party ended tragically for a software engineer, who was stabbed outside La Marvella Hotel near South End Circle in the Siddapura police station limits.

The deceased Karthik Vishnu, who had come to the city from Coimbatore to celebrate New Year, died in a private hospital here on Tuesday morning after the alleged attack on Monday night. A native of Tirupur in Tamil Nadu, he had come with five of his friends to attend a party at the hotel. The security guard of the hotel, who heard a sound outside, found Karthik lying with stab injuries. He was rushed to St. John’s Hospital, but succumbed on Tuesday morning, said the police. Sources said that his friends had left earlier in an autorickshaw after 1 a.m. and Karthik was said to have been waiting to hire another one.

City Police Commissioner Jyothi Prakash Mirji said that a case of accident had been initially registered as there was a suspicion that Karthik had fallen off an autorickshaw.

However, after studying the CCTV footage from the hotel, a case of murder has been registered.
