A software engineer was crushed to death under the wheels of a bus she was trying to board in Devanahalli, near here, on Tuesday morning even as her father, who came to drop her, was a helpless witness to the horror.

Jalajakshi (27), daughter of Ram Mohan, a resident of the Fort Area in Devanahalli, worked for HP in Bangalore.

Police said she used to take the bus belonging to Gopalakrishna Travel agency every day to commute. On Tuesday, Jalajakshi missed it by a few seconds and called her father to drop her to the next stop. They reached there just as the bus was arriving at Chikkasandra village gate. But before it could stop, Jalajakshi got down from the motorcycle, ran to the front door and tried to board it. She slipped and fell, coming under the left rear wheel. She died on the spot. Seeing his daughter die before his eyes, Mr. Ram Mohan went into shock and has not been able to speak.
