Yet another case of an autorickshaw driver misbehaving with a passenger has come to light.

Only this time, the 25-year-old software engineer, who was roughed up by the driver, managed to fight back.

Rini Biswas hired the auto on September 18 to return home at Maruthi Nagar in Madiwala. “It was around 11 p.m. when the driver agreed to drop me home. On reaching the main road, he stopped the auto and refused to go further. He asked me to walk instead,” she said.

Since it was dark and not many people were on the road, Ms. Rini insisted that he drop her home.

Trouble started when the driver, following a heated argument, dragged her out of the vehicle and spat on her face. Ms. Rini, trained in self-defence, retaliated and punched him on his face.

As she noted the registration number and called the police control room, the driver managed to speed away.

On Friday morning, Ms. Rini approached the Madiwala police and filed a complaint. A case has been registered. Ms. Rini posted her horrifying experience on the city police Facebook page, following which Police Commissioner M.N. Reddi directed the police to take action.

Police sources said the driver’s details had been sought from the Regional Transport Authority.
