Teachers and lecturers across the State took to the streets here on Wednesday demanding an end to the wage disparity between State and Central government scales.

Basavaraj Gurikar, president, Karnataka Rajya Shikshakara, Upanyasakara Kriya Samiti, urged the government to introduce a special allowance along with salary. “Teachers in rural areas should be given house rent allowance,” he said. Mr. Gurikar said they had 3.5 lakh members in the State.
