A 38-year-old tea shop owner and his wife committed suicide by hanging after killing their two minor daughters by feeding them poison in their house in Hebbagodi on Tuesday.

The deceased are Shivaraj, Parvathy (28 years) daughters Sudha (8) and Kavya (5). The family was living in Banahalli near Chandapura.

Preliminary enquires by the police revealed that Shivaraj was heavily in debt and this could have been the reason behind his extreme step.

The incident came to light when neighbours tried to wake the family up in the morning. When there was no response they broke open the door to find the couple hanging and children lying dead on the floor.
