Bangalore city raised Rs. 3 crore for charity during the TCS World 10K Run Bangalore 2012 on May 27, Rs. 1.21 crore more than the previous edition.
The event had registered a participation of 22,000 runners, including top-rank runners from India and abroad, 22 corporate houses, and 6,900 individual donors, including 27 Care Champions, who had together given over Rs. 3.06 crore to 66 charities.
Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, Murray Culshaw, Founder Chairman of Bangalore Cares, said: “We are building a great opportunity for charities to raise vital resources to sustain and expand services.”
Donations
Donations were collected from various categories during the run, through individual donors, the corporate collections and online donations.
The amount raised during the run will support many causes ranging from street children to senior citizens, victims of drugs, AIDS and cancer, the disabled and the dying, the environment and the animal care, civil and human rights.

“We aim to have more NGOs participating and look forward to make it Rs. 5 crore next year,” Mr. Culshaw said.
Present at the function were E.S. Chakravarthy, Centre Head, Bangalore, TCS, the title sponsor, who officially released the charity docket along with the event’s brand ambassador, actor Puneet Rajkumar.
