The shut down of water supply will begin on June 12.

The shut down of water supply will begin on June 12.

Be prepared to go without water for two days and face shortage on the third from June 12 across the city, as the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) will shut down supply from all the four stages of Cauvery to take up maintenance work.

To facilitate interlinking works of the existing power lines with the new lines in the 200 kV power station in Thorekadanahalli, and delink the Cauvery Stage IV Phase I from Netkal Balancing Reservoir (NBR) and link it directly to Shiva Balancing Reservoir (SBR), BWSSB will stop pumping from Thorekadanahalli (TK Halli), Tataguni and Harohalli pumping stations from 10 a.m. on June 12 for nearly 20 hours.

As untreated water for the Cauvery Stage IV Phase II will be directly drawn from SBR, the Phase I line (that is now connected to NBR) will also be connected to SBR to reduce load on the open canal, said BWSSB Chief Engineer (Cauvery) Narayan.

BWSSB Engineer-in-Chief T. Venkataraju said although the shut down would be for 20 hours, it would take at least 10 to 12 hours for all the pipelines to get filled and another eight hours for the pumping to be restored.

“Water from all the pipelines will be emptied before the maintenance works start. This is necessary for the speedy completion of work on Cauvery IV Stage Phase II that will augment the city's water supply by 500 million litres of water per day (mld),” he said.

From 10 a.m.

He said residents of areas where supply was scheduled on June 12 would get it before 10 a.m. “Supply will be cut off from 10 a.m. on June 12 up to early morning of June 13. Although supply will be resumed on June 14, supply will be hit as it will take some time for normalcy to be restored. That is why we have announced that the water shutdown is for three days,” he added.
