Suresh Kumar visits garbage disposal plant in Salem

The plant processes about 220 tonnes of waste every day and converts it into fertiliser

With Karnataka looking to adopt scientific garbage disposal system, a team of officials led by Urban Development Minister S. Suresh Kumar inspected the Salem City Integrated Waste Management Private Ltd. in Chettichavadi, near Salem, on Tuesday.

The team studied the mechanism adopted at the plant where around 220 tonnes of waste supplied by the Salem City Municipal Corporation every day is processed and converted into bio-organic fertilizer.

Hanjer Biotech Energies Private Ltd. (HBEPL) officials explained about the process of segregating waste, costs involved, labour required and conversion into various byproducts. Last week, the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, along with Minister for Health and Family Welfare Arvind Limbavali, MLAs M. Sathish Reddy, N.S. Nandeesh Reddy, B.N. Vijayakumar, S.R. Vishwanath and the former Minister Ramachandra Gowda, inspected the plant and studied the process for implementation in the State.
