The South Western Railway (SWR) is targeting 208-km of new lines for 2016-17 across its jurisdiction. The target this year is almost double of last year’s achievement in which officials managed to complete 107-km of track doubling in 2015-16.

Speaking at a press briefing on the activities of SWR in the past two years, General Manager P.K. Saxena said that the railways was also in talks with the state government with regard to the implementation of the suburban rail project for the city announced by the Railway Minister in this year’s budget.

“We had a meeting on April 22. The report prepared will be further studied and it has to be analyzed on the ground. We are currently in the process of doing this in consultation with the state government," Mr. Saxena said.
