Former minister K.B. Shanappa, who heads a Sub-Committee of experts that will make recommendations to the Karnataka government on the steps to check crimes against women and children, will submit its report in two months.

Former Law Minister M.C. Nanaiah, who heads the 29-member expert committee set up to make recommendations on the issues related to women and children had recently set up two separate committees headed by Motamma and K.B. Shanappa to hasten the process of making recommendations to facilitate the Committee to submit the report in the stipulated three-months.

Speaking to media persons after holding the meeting of the sub-committee at the Vidhana Soudha on Friday, Mr. Shanappa said that the committee members were opposed to provide legal sanctity to prostitution. Instead they favoured rehabilitation of those already engaged in the profession.

When asked about the focus of the committee, Mr. Shanappa said that a study would be conducted to find out, which section of the society was bearing brunt of the problem. “We waned to know, whether phenomenon is restricted to certain classes such as SC, ST, backward classes”, he explained.
