Students of renowned tabla artiste Ravindra Yavagal, who was recently conferred the prestigious Karnataka Kalashree award, will honour their guru on Sunday.

Titled "Naadaarpana", the event will coincide with Guru Poornima celebrations and will have two musicians of acclaim -- Rajeev Taranath and Lalit J. Rao -- as chief guests.

Besides table ensemble by his students and concert by Venkatesh Kumar, the event will also see the launch of a website on Mr. Yavagal, release of an audio CD and a short film on his life and achievements.

A top ranking artiste of the All India Radio, Mr. Yavagal hailing from north Karnataka is today one of the most sought after tabla players of the country, both as an accompanist and solo artiste. He has performed in many prestigious music festivals in India and abroad and accompanied greats, including Mallikarjun Mansur, Gangubai Hangal, Bhimsen Joshi, Basavaraj Rajguru, Jasraj and Parveen Sultana. Not to be confined by convention, he has been open to experimenting with the ideas of synthesis and has shared the concert platform with maestros of Carnatic music, such as Balamuralikrishna, T.N. Krishnan, Umayalapuram K. Shivaraman and others.

Mr. Yavagal established the Sri Rama Kala Vedike Trust in memory of his father in 2006 to popularise Indian classical music, promote young talents and offer financial assistance to needy musicians. He is also an able teacher and has been training youngsters, many of whom are today performing artistes.

The programme on Sunday will start at 5 p.m. at JSS Auditorium in Jayanagar 8th Block.
