A fun-filled school picnic for Class 10 students of Florence School, Fraser Town, ended on a sour note when a parapet wall collapsed at a resort on Bannerghatta Road on Thursday morning, injuring five of them.
They were rushed to a hospital.
Shoaib, a student, said that around 50 students had gone to the picnic at the Tulips Resort and Amusement Park around 8 a.m.
“Around ten of them were leaning against the two-feet high wall for a photograph. One of them remarked that the parapet wall was shaking. Soon after, the wall gave way and they fell,” he said.
The injured students are Mohammed Afsin Aftab (16), Mohammed Faizan (15), Nawazuddin (15), Syed Imran (15) and Abdul Waseem (15). Hospital authorities said that one of the students had sustained a leg fracture, while another required scanning. The other three had sustained minor injuries and all of them were stable.
Speaking to The Hindu, Waseem, said, “I just remember posing for the photograph. I lost consciousness after I fell.”
One of the staff members claimed that the resort had paid for the first-aid of injured students. However, the management was unavailable for comment.
The remaining students left the resort shortly before 4 p.m.
