Commotion prevailed at the Sarvodaya Residential School at Bagalur when two groups of students clashed over a trivial issue on Tuesday.
According to sources, a group of students from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar belonging to the same institute had come to prepare for the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) entrance course. These students are selected from an all India entrance test conducted by the Navodaya group of institutions every year.
The IIT aspirants used to complain that their valuables went missing from their hostel frequently. But, on Tuesday, they managed to catch two local students who allegedly stole money, the sources said.
While the school management tried to pacify the agitated students, a group of local students arrived at the scene leading to sloganeering and chaos.
Soon, the two groups clashed with each other and exchanged blows turning the school premises into a virtual battle ground.
The teachers and other staff of the school, who tried to intervene also had to bear the brunt.
The Bagalur police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Meanwhile the students from north India staged a protest demanding security and action against the persons responsible for stealing their valuables.
When contacted the Bagalur police termed the incident as trivial. “There was some confusion among the student, which has been sorted out,” the police said adding that the there was no complaint filed in this regard.
