Student files complaint against impersonator

The complainant alleged that the accused was misusing her identity on Facebook for the past one year

A business management student and daughter of a former MLA has filed a complaint against her high school friend for impersonating her on a social media website.

Based on the complaint, the R.T. Nagar police have registered a case under the Information Technology Act and are on the look out for the accused, who is said to be based in Chennai. The complainant alleged that the accused was misusing her identity and “flirting” with hundreds of people on Facebook for the past one year.

Profile picture

She claimed that the accused had even used her photo as a profile picture on Whatsapp.

The complainant has claimed that she got to know of this only when some common friends informed her four days ago.

After confirming that her photo was being used by the accused, she filed a complaint on July 17.

The police are trying to contact the accused to ascertain the reason behind the impersonation.
