Strengthen efforts to trace Paul Meekin, urge activists

Various child rights activists as well as parent groups have decided to urge the Karnataka State Commissioner for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR) to direct the city police to trace British national Dr. Paul Meekin, who was spotted in Kuwait recently.

H.R. Umesh Aradhaya said that they would write to the city police to step up their efforts with regard to the same.

Nagasimha G. Rao, nodal supervisor for Childline, said that the police had failed to act on strong leads and had neglected the case. “This shows that the police have been lax. While there is lot of public pressure when the case comes to light, it is forgotten by the public and media months a few days later,” he said.

Dr. Meekin was the principal of an international school in the city. In 2011, he was arrested after the parents of a 14-year-old student accused him of seeking sexual favours from their son. He was in jail for over a year before securing bail. He has been absconding since 2013. The city police are trying to get Interpol to issue a red corner notice against him.
