An unsuspecting six-year-old girl sustained severe injuries on her face after a stray dog attacked her near her home at Indiranagar H-Colony here Thursday evening.
Sanjana was on her way to her tuition class just a few houses away around 4.45 p.m. when she was suddenly attacked, without any provocation.
Her worried father, Sanjay, said she had sustained severe injuries on her cheeks and had broken her teeth. Hearing her screams for help, residents nearby rushed to her and scared the dog away.
Mr. Sanjay said she was first taken to the nearby Chinmaya Mission Hospital where she was provided with first-aid. She was then rushed to Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS). He alleged the hospital staff there delayed treatment to his traumatised daughter for nearly two hours. “We had no idea why. They gave one senseless reason after another, even claiming there were no doctors on duty,” he complained.
Meanwhile, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) Joint Director (Animal Husbandry) Parvez Ahmed Piran said he was supervising Sanjana’s treatment after the parents called the civic authority. He said she had been administered the anti-rabies vaccination and serum. “The inflammation that the child currently has is the normal body reaction to the dog bite. There is nothing to worry. With further treatment, the inflammation will subside. We will refer her case to a plastic surgeon at St. Johns Hospital on Monday.”
Dr. Piran said he would forward the proposal to reimburse the treatment cost to the family to the Mayor’s office. He said the dog had been caught and it didn’t appear to be rabid. “However, we have kept it under observation.”
