Stone thrown at train again

March 04, 2013 09:36 am | Updated November 16, 2021 10:20 pm IST - Bangalore:

After the stone-throwing incident involving the double-decker train bound for Chennai, another case of vandals throwing a stone at a train was reported on Sunday. It is said that vandals threw a stone at the Yeswanthpur-Kannur Express as it was approaching Carmalaram Railway Station at around 9 p.m.

According to Sunish C. from the All India Loco Running Staff Association (South Western Railway), loco pilot R. Sajeesh escaped unhurt, even as the side windowpane broke.

He said that trains running the Bangalore-Nayandanahalli track is particularly prone to stone-throwing. “In these areas that are identified as ‘prone areas’, we have suggested routine checks by the Railway Protection Force to ensure that this menace is contained,” he said.

He said that the association had previously suggested installing metal grills, like the ones on police vehicles, on the sides to protect the loco pilot, besides ensuring that a thicker glass is used.
