Stay extended on Mantri mall ramp demolition

June 28, 2011 02:55 pm | Updated 02:55 pm IST - Bangalore:

The Karnataka High Court on Monday extended for four more weeks the stay on demolition of ramps and other structures of Mantri Square mall here.

Justice Abdul Nazeer extended the stay order as the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike had sought time to file objections to the petition filed by Abhishek Developers, a subsidiary of Mantri group, questioning the BBMP's action of demolishing the structure. Adjourning hearing to July 11, the court permitted the BBMP two weeks to submit its objections.

Status report

The High Court on Monday directed the BBMP and the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) to submit a status report within a week on the action taken with regard to illegal use of residential buildings for commercial purposes in Sadashivanagar locality.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice J.S. Khehar and Justice H.G. Ramesh passed the order while hearing a public interest litigation petition filed by Sadashivanagar Residents' Welfare Association in 2006.

When the petition came up for hearing, the BBMP told the court that it had filed a status report in 2006 itself indicating that 169 residential buildings were being used for commercial activities. Following this, the Bench directed the BBMP and the BDA to submit present status of these buildings and action taken report.
