State moves Supreme Court on TDR for royal family

February 14, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 09:00 am IST - Bengaluru:

The State government on Friday told the Karnataka High Court that it has moved the Supreme Court seeking a clarification on issuance of Transferable Development Rights (TDR) to members of the Mysuru royal family in lieu of compensation for acquiring portions of Bangalore Palace Ground for widening Ramana Maharshi Road (Ballari Road) stretch between BDA junction and Mehkri Circle.

Submission

A submission in this regard was made on behalf of the State during the hearing of a PIL petition related to poor maintenance of roads in the city.

The Supreme Court in November 2014 had permitted granting of TDR to some members of Mysore family members, without prejudice to the rights of the parties, for taking over the land for widening the road in the public interest pending appeal against the Bangalore Palace (Acquisition and Transfer) Act, 1996.

Dispute

However, the government did not permit the BBMP to grant TDR, as a dispute over ownership of Bangalore Palace is pending before the apex court.

Adjourned

A Division Bench comprising acting Chief Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee and Justice Ravi Malimath adjourned further hearing by two weeks.

Ad scam

Meanwhile, the bench disposed a PIL seeking a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the alleged advertisement hoarding scam in the BBMP after being informed that the State government had recently ordered the Criminal Investigation Department to probe the allegations.
