: Id-ul-Fitr was celebrated in the city on Tuesday. In a rare occasion, the entire State celebrated Id on the same day. The coastal belt of Karnataka used to usually celebrate Id a day before the rest of the State, following the moon sighting in the Gulf area.

The first prayers were conducted at 6.45 a.m. at the Abdul Bari Corporation Grounds, Shivajinagar. The prayers were conducted by Moulana Rabbani, who was specially invited for the prayers.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah along with ministers Ramalinga Reddy and Dinesh Gundurao participated in the prayers at Masjid-e-Idgah Bilal on Bannerghatta Road.

Thousands also offered prayers Khuddus Saheb Idgah on Miller’s Road, the biggest Idgah Ground in the city, where Minister for Infrastructure Development and Information R. Roshan Baig and former Union Minister C.K. Jaffer Sharief offered prayers.

Prayers were held at nearly 600 Idgah Grounds, Corporation Grounds and large mosques in the city.

The last prayer was recited at Masjid- e-Azam mosque in Shivajinagar at 11 a.m.

The festive spirit was not dampened, despite the price of mutton soaring through the sky during the festival with a kilo costing nearly Rs. 500.
