Startup community set for ice bucket challenge

Those accepting the challenge will have ice cold water poured on the head and in a day, will dare three more people to do the same

While Corey Griffin, co-founder of the now viral Ice bucket Challenge drowned on Wednesday, the technology startup community is all set to see one of their members take the challenge in Bangalore on Monday.

Vardhan Koshal, co-founder, Ridingo, a ride-sharing platform, said those accepting the challenge will have ice cold water poured on the head and in a day, will dare three more people to do the same. Those refusing it would personally thank a traffic policeman and post that selfie on Twitter.

Rajesh Sawhney, founder of Global Superangels Forum (GSF), a multi-city startup accelerator in India, who will be taking the Ice Bucket Challenge after a 10-km run with 30 participants said, “I am running to raise awareness about the startup culture in India.”

Deepak Cheenath, co-founder of WizenWorld, a game-based learning platform that helps students across the world enjoy learning mathematics, who is participating in the run, said the challenge, started by a “social worker and marketing genius” has been effectively generating awareness about issues.

While Mr. Griffin’s death would keep the challenge alive longer, “Like all things, it will eventually wane in popularity”, he said.
