Stage set for Mungaru Male sequel

Shashank will direct, and G. Gangadhar will produce the film

Actor Ganesh’s fans have a reason to rejoice what with the stage being set for making a sequel of Mungaru Male that propelled him to stardom. After nearly eight years, the process of making a sequel of blockbuster Mungaru Male began on Monday with the offering of puja to the script.

Mungaru Male-2 will be directed by Shashank of the Moggina Jade fame, and it will be produced by G. Gangadhar. Shooting will commence in April.

Shashank is being lauded for his experimentation with different genres. Along with critical acclaim, his films including Sixer, Krishnan Love Story and Jarasandha have succeeded in the box office.

Ganesh will be essaying the role of a protagonist in the sequel also. Rest of the cast will be decided soon, according to Mr. Shashank. Mungaru Male created history of sorts in eight-decade-old Kannada film industry when it was released in 2006. It ran for nearly a year in Bangalore and turned the fortunes of actor Ganesh. Yogaraj Bhat, who directed the film, is now the most sought-after filmmaker in Kannada.

According to film historians, it is for the first time in the history of PVR Cinemas that an Indian language film ran successfully for nearly a year.

The film recorded the highest box office collection in the history of Kannada cinema. Industry sources vouch for the fact that the film made a gross collection of Rs. 50 crore. Mungaru Male also provided a new lease of life for ‘Comedy Time’ Ganesh and made him one of the top billing stars in Kannada cinema.
