A 25-year-old motorcycle rider was killed and the pillion rider injured when a speeding car knocked them down on Bommanahalli road on Saturday night. The driver, Manjunath, was in an inebriated state.

The deceased, Anand, a native of Belguam, was working as executive in a private firm. Anand along with his colleague Navin Kumar was returning home from work when the incident happened.

Passers-by shifted the two to a private hospital, where doctors declared Anand brought dead. The Madiwala traffic police rushed to the spot and arrested Manjunath.

Raids at apparel shops

Officials of the Central Crime Branch on Saturday conducted simultaneous raids on apparel shops in Taragupete and Chamrajpet and seized ready-made garments worth Rs. 41 lakh, which were being sold under international brands.

The police have also arrested four persons in this connection. It is believed that the arrested would get apparels from Mumbai and other parts of the country and sell them under international brands at throwaway prices in the city.
