Seven suicides — all hangings — were reported since Thursday across the city. Dowry harassment is suspected to have driven a three-month pregnant woman to hang herself at her home in Bommasandra Thursday night.
Vidyaranyapura police said Sudhamani Satish (30), a personal assistant in the Human Resources Department of an English daily, was found hanging by her husband Satish, who is a faculty member of a college in Kannur near Bagalur. Sudhamani Sathish, who was three months pregnant, left a suicide note saying Satish was continuously asking her for money ever since they got married in 2005. Satish was taken into custody for questioning.
Mamata (22) hanged herself at home in Pragati Nagar in Electronics City police limits Thursday night. She was married to Ajay, a software engineer, for two years. The police said she locked herself in after the couple, Odisha natives, fought. Though the husband broke open the door, it was too late to save her.
Surabhi Bhat (16), a first-year PU student, hanged herself at her home in D’Souza Nagar Thursday evening, Girinagar police said.
Another PU student hanged herself at her home in Maruti Block in Doddabidarakallu. Peenya police said Harshita Anjanappa was said to be depressed over a stomach ailment.
A trekking instructor employed in a private camp in Bangalore hanged himself at his home in Mahalakshmi Layout on Friday. Police suspect H. Suresh (44) was depressed over a dysfunctional marriage.
Raju (34), an auto consultant, hanged himself at his home in Parvathipura Friday afternoon.
The body of an unidentified man was found hanging from a tree branch in a park near Attiguppe bus-stop Friday morning, Chandra Layout police said.
