It’s no less than ballet in water. In a first, members of Spain’s synchronised swimming national team will perform in the city early next month.
This 14-member all woman team, winners of the London Olympic 2012 silver and bronze medals, will come together in a display of talent and spectacle at the Global Swim Centre, Sadashivanagar, on February 2 and 3.
The event, to promote the sport, is organised by Elitzursynchro Club. Providing details, club founder Sebastian Rills described synchronised swimming as a perfect blend of mindboggling acrobatics, grace, coordination and art which is in sync with harmonised music. He said he started the club in 2006 to inspire young girls to embrace the sport at community level and to make healthier individuals. “There is lot of talent in India, but unfortunately the spotlight has always been on cricket. Our aim is to develop synchronised swimming in Bangalore and form a synchronised swimming team.”
The shows
The event will take place between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on February 2. Two shows are scheduled for February 3 — between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
