A 27-year-old man allegedly hacked his father to death at their house in Srinivagilu near Koramangala on Sunday night over a trivial dispute. Other family members informed the police and handed over the accused to the police.
The deceased Gautam (72), a retired clerk at Madras Engineers Group (MEG), had three sons. His second son Kiran Kumar (27) hacked him to death with a machete.
Kiran Kumar was earlier working with a private factory and was unemployed over the past one year. Depressed over his unemployment, Kiran Kumar had taken to vices and would often pick quarrels with his family, the police said.
On Sunday evening, Kiran Kumar's mother and her other sons had gone to attend a relative's wedding at Vasanthnagar. It is said Kiran Kumar refused to join them and stayed back at home with his father Gautham.
Sources said Kiran Kumar picked up a quarrel with his father over a trivial issue and hacked him to death with a machete in a fit of rage at around 9.30 p.m. “Neighbours reported to have heard both Gautham and Kiran Kumar arguing loudly and later a scream from Gautham. It is not clear what the dispute was over,” a senior police official said.
On hearing the scream, neighbours reportedly rushed to their house and locked up Kiran Kumar in a room. They informed the family, who rushed back home. Kiran Kumar was later arrested by the Viveknagar police, who have now booked him for murder.
