The Iyengar Bakery on O.R.C. Road, which has expanded over 32 years into a full-fledged bakery and showroom, cleverly allows the aromas from its ovens to filter into the customer service section. The bakery prepares something for everyone, from rusks for the health-conscious and infants to butter biscuits for the more indulgent folk. Among its sought after items is the ‘ bisi bread’ (hot bread), also available made of atta. These are sold straight out of the ovens — high-tech, large-scale stations that allow the place to produce over 1,000 loaves every day.

The buns here — they come in four kinds: plain, masala, special raisin and potato-stuffed — have had regulars coming in for the last three decades.

One has to try the ‘bun-butter-jam’ here, made with their own products, as well as their range of biscuits, cookies, fresh cream pastries and cakes.

Mr. Pattabi, who has been manager of the bakery for over a decade, ensures that quality is consistently high.

Only government-approved products of good quality are used in preparation, and the bakery’s master bakers have remained for almost two decades. Hygiene is a top priority here, he says.

The management here actually collects extra change from the RBI in order to serve its customers better, and has trained servers who always oblige customers who would like to sample items to help them make up their minds before buying the eats.
