Commuters using the metro-bus transit (MBT) day pass must mandatorily possess the smart card issued by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL). The MBT passes are being jointly issued by the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and BMRCL.

BMRCL, in a press release, said that MBT passes are available at all major BMTC bus stations, all metro stations, on board BMTC metro feeder services and select Volvo buses.

Two denominations

MBT passes come in two denominations, Rs. 70 (Saraag), allowing unlimited journey on BMTC non-AC services and metro rail and Rs. 110 (Saral), allowing unlimited journey on the day of purchase on all BMTC services except BIAL special services and metro rail.

The smart card is available at all metro stations for Rs. 50. If the passenger already possesses one, it can be used to activate the day pass at the metro ticket counter.

Once the day pass is loaded on the smart card, you can use it to travel on the metro all day.

The stored value in an existing smart card should not be used for the journey when the day pass, which is not transferable, is activated.

Yet to pick up

Meanwhile, sources in BMTC said that the demand for MBT passes is yet to pick up.

On Sunday, about 25 MBT passes (of the Rs. 70 denomination) were sold, they added.
