‘Small units not viable’

March 06, 2015 12:00 am | Updated April 02, 2016 08:06 am IST - Bengaluru:

The promises made before installation of roof-top solar generation units seem to be falling short. Having spent Rs. 4 lakh to install a 1.9kW unit atop his residence, Narayan Murthy said it would take him nearly 30 years (assuming the tariff increases by 11 per cent annually) to recover his investment. “Bescom underestimated the cost. It did not account for associated costs such as wiring. For small installations, the tariff being offered per unit is too low,” he said.

Moreover, though the solar panels were set up more than two months ago, Bescom was yet to pay the promised Rs. 9.56 per unit, he said.
