Slain SI’s family member to get a job

The last rites of the slain Sub-Inspector of Police B.S. Vijaykumar, shot dead by a constable on Sunday, were performed at Nelamangala, near here on Monday even as the accused, Anand Kumar, was remanded in police custody by the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court till February 4.

Denied leave by the Sub-Inspector for his housewarming ceremony, Constable Anand Kumar allegedly pumped three bullets into Vijay Kumar with a .303 rifle.

Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order) Bipin Gopalkrishna, who has been asked to conduct an inquiry into the killing, was among those present.

Report in 15 days

Mr. Gopalkrishna said that a report, including recommendations, will be submitted in the next 15 days to the government. As SI Vijay Kumar died during the course of duty, a job would be provided to a family member as standard procedure, he told The Hindu .

During interrogation, police sources said that Constable Anand Kumar confessed to have shot dead the sub-inspector after being denied leave.
