S.K. Ramoo

S.K. Ramoo, former Chief of Bureau of The Hindu, passed away here on Friday. He was 73, and leaves behind his wife and a son.

Setlur Keshavamurthy Ramoo served with distinction in various capacities in The Hindu between 1972 and 2004. Prior to this, he worked in the Indian Express.

His contribution to the field of journalism — politics and cinema, in particular — was immense. He also served as general secretary of the Press Club of Bangalore.

As a journalist he was known for his integrity, courage, forthright and anti-establishment views.

He was one of the few Bangalore-based journalists who protested against the Emergency and press censorship between 1975 and 1977.

Family sources said the funeral would take place after the arrival of his son, Pavan Setlur, who is settled in the United States.

Press Club of Bangalore has condoled the death of Mr. Ramoo. M.R. Doreswamy, former MLC and Chancellor of the PES University, said he had lost a dear friend who had a great insight of the State and its problems.

He was one of the few Bangalore-based journalists who protested against the Emergency and press censorship between 1975 and 1977.
