There was chaos in New Cambridge School at Yarandahalli, near Anekal, on Saturday after a mob staged a protest against the school authorities alleging that a six-year-old student was raped by a schoolteacher.
The mob ransacked furniture and even attempted to attack the school authorities.
The police said the injuries in the girl’s private parts were inflicted by her classmate who pierced her with a pencil on Thursday.
The incident came to light on Friday evening when the girl complained of pain, following which her parents took her to hospital.
The police said the doctors, on seeing the laceration, initially suspected that it could be a case of sexual assault and asked the parents to lodge a police complaint. Though the Haebbagodi police registered a case of rape, the girl said in her statement that the laceration was caused when her classmate pierced her with a pencil.
Superintendent of Police (Rural) D. Prakash said both the girls admitted that they had an argument in the classroom when the teacher was not around; following which one of them injured the other with a sharp pencil.
“As per the initial investigation, it is not a case of rape. Doctors at the Anekal Government Hospital examined the girl. She is healthy. We are awaiting the vaginal swab test report from the forensic science laboratory,” he said.
Meanwhile, school principal Kalinath filed a complaint against the people who ransacked the school. Classes were cancelled on Saturday.
